Top Furniture Trends for 2018

Home Office Innovations Every year the furniture industry introduces new styles, finishes, and colors. This year there is an emerging trend for the consumer who works from home. For years, home office furniture was dominated by large desks that mimicked the CEO office furniture found in executive suites. Soon homes were sporting executive man caves with towering bookcases, hutches, and dark masculine furniture that looked like it belonged in the White House.   Then technology suddenly made all those auxiliary cabinets obsolete when wireless printers, iPads, and laptops started to replace all the cord management necessities that drove designs for executive home offices. In addition, more people – both men and women – have begun to telecommute from home more with the assistance of online collaborative technologies. As an end result, home office furniture has begun to shrink in the types of items, size of the pieces, and suppliers who make them.   Fortunately for many of the women who work from home, new technology-driven home office innovations include a health feature enabling the desks to rise from a sitting to standing position to improve circulation and increase metabolic function. However, the majority of these adjustable height desks and companion pieces look very institutional and have totally missed the fact that women who work from home still want all the technology, but also want the office to blend in with the way she decorates her home. She does not want a commercial-looking home office in her family room or bedroom.   Genevive Height Adjustable Desk   The Genevieve Collection offers a less commercial look in a height adjustable desk. It is one of several collections being introduced this year featuring Twin Star Home’s Active Life™ height adjustable desks that adjust from sitting to standing with four different programmable height settings, and also feature three 2.4 amp USB ports for charging up to three devices at once.           Multi-functional Furniture Now Twin Star Home has introduced some new, innovative, and technology-driven home office furniture that blends beautiful residential styling with the newest technology-driven features. The Swedish Classics™ Collection is a traditional, cottage-styled group in a warm Baltic White painted finish made of solid and veneer birch, pretty enough for any family room, guest room, or other location in the home.       This collection’s Wall Street configuration features modular bookcases, which come with and without closed storage areas, plus a beautiful writing desk with drop leaf sides that serves as an expandable work and play desk, a great concept for parent and child homework projects they can work on together. The desk can also double as a partners’ desk or as a serious single workstation.   Swedish Classics Secretary Desk   Swedish Classics also includes a secretary desk that can double as an entry hall piece, a chest of drawers, or an accent piece in the den, featuring a hidden laptop charging and work station with lateral file.     There is also an entertainment center bridge and cord management for a flat screen TV. This collection even includes an optional electric fireplace for a romantic evening, spent watching TV by the fire when Wall Street is used in the family room. by Jena Hall Designer-in-Residence ]]>
